The rhythm

Two seasons a year — Fall and Spring, 2 to 3 months each, Beginner a little shorter than Teen. A weekly team practice, plus a league meet about once a month in a Local League or the Virtual League.

What it costs

$22–24 seasonal fee per player, plus study materials at $15–40. Groups also use Question-Pro software and a buzzer set (buy one, or borrow through the loaner program).

Where teams meet

Churches, Christian schools, homeschool co-ops, living rooms. If a group can gather there, Bible Bowl can practice there.

What a season looks like

Bible Bowl runs two seasons a year — a Fall season and a Spring season — each 2 to 3 months, with Beginner ending a little earlier than Teen.

Registration & materials

Sign up, get the season's text and study guides.

Study & weekly practice

Some of it happens at home, some with the team in community — every week has both.

Monthly local events

League meets, roughly the first Saturday of the month. The heartbeat of the season.

Nationals (optional)

Many teams make it to Nationals, but plenty don’t—and that can still make for a great season.

Quick answers

Who may play Bible Bowl?

The grade ranges* for Bible Bowl players are:

  • Beginner: grades 3–5
  • Teen: grades 6–12

Participating players should be able to do the following:

  • Clearly and vocally answer questions pertaining to knowledge obtained from studying the text
  • Press a buzzer button to answer questions
  • Interact with other players as a member of a team
  • Understand and follow the rules of the game

* Your local program may allow for some flexibility within those ranges; however, playing outside of official ranges could affect eligibility at official tournaments (e.g. Nationals). More information may be found in the Rules & Procedures.

What is the time commitment?

Daily: Many students study ~5 days per week, typically 15–20 minutes. Players who wish to play more competitively often study more; the amount of time a player puts in depends on their own abilities and motivation.

Weekly: A typical weekly team practice is about an hour.

Monthly: There are a few local league meets per season, usually on a Saturday. Their length varies by location and can run 3 to 5 hours — check this season’s dates. Exact dates vary by league, so your league coordinator will have the definite schedule.

What is the cost?

These costs are per season, not per school year.

Resources: All study resources are available from Bible Quiz Shop, which has separate resources for Beginner and Teen. At a minimum, every group needs to purchase:

Other optional resources are available there as well.

Registration: Each student must register online to participate (Beginner: $22; Teen: $24).

Local: Local leagues usually also have a nominal per-player fee to cover their costs. Check with your local leader for their current pricing.

Where do I get buzzers?
Buy a set from one of the approved vendors, or borrow one through the loaner program while you get established.
What version of the Bible do you use?
Every question comes from the Scripture text in the official Study Guide published by Bible Quiz Shop, which uses the Christian Standard Bible. Study from that guide — it is the only text used to judge whether an answer is correct in competition.
Are there denomination requirements?
Bible Bowl was started in the early 1960’s by students at Lincoln Christian College, then quickly adopted as a youth event by the North American Christian Convention. LCC and the NACC were affiliated with the non-denominational Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ of what is officially known as the American Restoration Movement. The leadership of Bible Bowl is still affiliated with these churches; however, Bible Bowl teams and participants are not required to be affiliated with any specific denomination or fellowship of churches.
